Oral Myiasis - A Rare Case
Manas Bajpai

Abstract
Myiasis is the infestation of live human and vertebrate animal with dipterous larvae which feed on the host's dead or living tissue. The term myiasis is derived from Latin word 'muia' which means fly and 'iasis' means disease. It is a pathology caused by the larvae in human and animal tissue that evolve to a parasite. It is comparatively more often seen in South East Asian countries in comparison with western countries due to their subtropical climate which is favorable for the growth of flies. This paper presents a rare case of Oral myiasis in anterior maxillary region of 39 year old male, caused by larvae (maggots). The treatment consisted of surgical debridment of the wound.
